Frequently Asked Questions

How can I join the Cathedral of St. Peter parish?
Please call the parish office, 913-371-0840, for the information needed to start the process.

Is the Church open?  I would like to schedule a visit.
Unfortunately we are not able to leave the Church open during the day.  It is open approximately 45 minutes before mass and we have all-day adoration on Tuesdays.

How can I schedule an event at the Parish Center?
You must be an active, supporting member of the parish for at least one year.  Please call the parish office, 913-371-0840, to determine availability.

How much does it cost to rent the Parish Center?
A deposit of $250 is required.  This deposit is refundable if, after your event, the Parish Center inspection shows no damage to the hall. The rental of the Parish Center is $600 and includes the set-up and removal of the tables and chairs.  In addition, there is a $95 insurance fee that is required by the Archdiocese.  This is a separate check made payable to the "Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas."  Rentals must be made at least 3 months in advance of the event and ALL FEES MUST BE PAID 3 MONTHS PRIOR TO YOUR EVENT (with the checks clearing the bank).  Spurlock Hall can be rented for $250.  A $95 insurance fee and a $250 deposit also applies.

What are the parish office hours?
Monday - Friday from 9:00 - 5:00 p.m.  The office is closed on all Holy Days and Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (and the Friday after), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (and day after), New Year's Day, Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

How do I become Catholic?
The RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is the process for becoming a Catholic. The RCIA sessions begin in mid-September and conclude with the Easter Vigil (the night before Easter) when the participants are baptized, received into the Church and confirmed.

The RCIA sessions are on Wednesday evenings, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, in Spurlock Hall, which is the cafeteria of Resurrection School. Please contact Father Harold Schneider at the Parish Office for more information at 913-371-0840. One may also contact Joyce Holzhuter, who helps coordinate RCIA, at 913-634-0290 for more information.

I would like to have my baby baptized, what do I need to do?
As in all Catholic parishes, the parent(s) should be registered active members of the parish. "Active" means that the parent(s) should be practicing their faith through Sunday worship and participation in parish activities.

For parishioners please contact Father Harold Schneider at 913-371-0840. He meets with parents and then sets a date for the baptism. Non-parishioners will need to participate in the baptismal preparation offered by their own parish and their pastor will need to send permission to the cathedral pastor. After reception of those documents, a date can be set for baptism at the cathedral. Baptisms are generally celebrated after the 4:00 pm Saturday evening Mass or after the 11:00 am Sunday morning Mass.

Note: Godparents must be practicing Catholics and, if married, the marriage must have been within the Catholic Church.

I am interested in being married in your church, what do I do?
Couples need to contact the pastor at 913-371-0840 to set an appointment to begin the process. Couples will need to participate in the required Archiocesan marriage preparation program. Non-parishioners will need written permission from their own pastor, and their own pastor is responsible for the marriage preparation. Please contact the pastor of the cathedral a minimum of 6 months prior to the anticipated date.
